I've been keeping this under my hat for a little too long now. I've invented a cocktail using my new favorite spirit, Passoa. I've shared it with some of my friends and dance colleagues, and they're all quite smitten with it. I figured I should probably quit being so stingy and go ahead and get the word out so others can enjoy its Passion-fruity goodness. Before sharing the recipe, though, I must tell you how it got its name. My good friends Crystal and Denise brought me my first bottle of Passoa when they returned from a Caribbean cruise. I tried using it in a few things, and finally hit upon a combination that I really liked. One evening I talked Crystal and Denise into accompanying me to my beginner belly dance class. Before going to class, we had my new beverage with dinner. I told them, "This will help us to get smooshy!" That's the highly technical term that my bellydance teacher, Jeannette, uses to refer to keeping your knees soft, etc. while dancing. I told them, "I don't have a name for it yet, though. What do you suggest?" and they said, "Why not just keep it simple and call it the Smooshy?" Thus the Smooshy was born.
The ingredients in one Smooshy are: 2 oz. of ruby red grapefruit juice cocktail, 1 1/2 oz. Passoa Passion Fruit liqueur, 1 oz. gold rum, and 1/2 oz. Rose's sweetened lime juice. Shake with ice and strain into a martini glass; garnish with a lime slice.
Cheers!

Not only is it a group for folks who enjoy their recreational beverages, but it also happens to be moderated by one of the greats in the wonderful world of Middle Eastern dance. Sounds like a match made in heaven to me!
I've noticed there haven't been any discussions started up lately, so I'm hoping to get the ball rolling again. I've recently discovered Passoa Passion Fruit liqueur. Some friends brought it back for me from a cruise they took in January, and they told me they weren't sure if I'd be able to find it anywhere in the metro Milwaukee area. Thankfully they were wrong, and I now have a new "regular" place I frequent to purchase my liquid necessities.
My question is, does anyone have any Passoa recipes they'd like to share? Since it's a rather little-known treat, at least in my neck of the woods, I haven't been able to find many Passoa recipes. I must say, though, it does mix quite nicely with citrus juices and rum!

.

Hi kids – I'm new to this tribe and thought I’d go ahead and contribute.

A trip to Rosarito Beach 10 years ago inspired me to create a Baja style Margarita. My initial attempts were tasty but so strong I was hammered after the second one. I worked on the recipe below for almost a year until I got the taste that I wanted with just enough booze for social lubrication but not so much that I am slobbering before the party ends. Enjoy !!

******************************************************************************

The favorite Party Margarita recipe. This recipe makes approximately 1 gallon, a Coleman jug works great.

The day before I need a gallon of Margaritas, I fill a small margarine tub about 3/4 and put that in the freezer, the ice chunk can be easily popped out when needed.

Now lets talk about Tequila . . . Please do not use Jose Cuevo gold in this recipe. Jose Cuevo has an intense smoky flavor and aroma that completely overwhelms the other flavors. I use Margaritaville Tequila Oro, but any medium quality (Trader Joe’s Zapopan Tequila Reposado is o.k.), mellow gold Tequila will do (if you are not a Tequila expert, which I am not, look for a 750 ml bottle in the $12.00 to $20.00 range).

Ingredients:

1 750 ml bottle of Margaritaville Tequila Oro (approx 25.5 oz)
1 750 ml bottle Triple Sec (approx 25.5 oz)
1 12 oz can frozen Limeade concentrate*
16 oz Fresh squeezed Lime juice **

- Dump all ingredients into a 1 gallon jug
- Add ½ the recommended water for the Limeade
- Drop in the chunk of ice
- Make sure the lid is tight and give the thing a good shake
- Serve over ice

* The frozen Limeade concentrate should be readily available, use either a store brand or MinuteMaid, I do not recommend the Bacardi frozen mixer in this recipe.

** After purchasing nearly every style of manual and electric juicer (I really have quite a collection), my local Wild Oats market now carries 16 oz bottles of organic not-from-concentrate lime juice (Santa Cruz organic), highly recommended.

1/2 shot of Goldschlager

Shake briskly to brutally with ice, strain into a red accented or other festively holiday martini glass.

If you adjust the ratios, remember to keep it light on the 'schlager - you never want to make 'tinis too sweet. they should always taste like an adult cocktail. (read: green apple martinis are for kids)

You know how hard it is to find Cinnamon Schnapps these days?!? BevMo closes too damn early!
Anyway, this doesn't quite work with After Shock, or the more spicy 'red hot' flavor of cinnamon. I really want to achieve that smouldering baked cinnamon flavor.

Nasty! Bletch!

But then a little light bulb went off in my head. I thought of Jim, the moderator of this tribe, and his wonderful drink concoctions. Over the summer I had made his wonderful white wine sangria so I thought there must be something I could make with white zinn. Suggestions?
I'm totally down to pour it down the drain if no good recipe comes to mind.
Get's a little sweet with all the sweet/sour, so after a bit, I switched the 7up to club soda. MUCH nicer.
It is terrific.
Take two bags of Zinger per pint and let sit in the bottle overnight. You can use more or less as your taste. The aroma, the fruity-herbal flavor and the deep red colour are all stellar. I used Skyy vodka because it has the least taste (and character) since I wanted to experience the Zinger without other impartation.

This would make the best Cosmo, in my humble opinion. Makes a great shot, with just a squeexe of lime or a lemon twist. "Let's have some now!"
Chill and enjoy- let me know what you think!
